GEORGIAN RIVER ESTATE

Daniel Island, Charleston, SC

6,900 sq ft, 4 bedrooms plus 2 br guest house

The most coveted parcel of land on the island required a residence of similar pedigree.

A fictional historical narrative organizes the structures on the site.  A formal Georgian manor house is the focal point, while a secondary kitchen house dependency and coordinating carriage house appear to have been added at a later date.  Subtle architectural detailing supports the narrative and differentiates the structures. A modern glazed steel clad hyphen bridges between the manor house and kitchen house as evidence of a exquisite modern renovation.

The carriage house is the public face greeting the street and features guest quarters above and a garden potting conservatory.  An outbuilding flanks the raised formal garden and is modeled on a dovecote.

LOW COUNTRY TRADITIONAL MODERN HYBRID

Captains Island, Charleston SC

4,800 sq ft  5 bedrooms

Located on a pristine lot with expansive view of the marsh and river, this waterfront residence embraces traditional low country coastal tectonics in a modern hand.

In the manner of an inhabited ruin, traditionally detailed brick masonry masses shelter and protect the frame residence on its public facades.  Louvered scrim covers expanses of glass and provide further privacy.  The private waterfront facade opens up with expansive glazing surrounding an elevated courtyard terrace and pool.

The primary mass of the home is flanked by secondary dependency wings that reference historic rural dogtrot structures.
